The BOBCARD One Credit Card is a co-branded product from BOBCARD Limited (Bank of Baroda's card arm) and OneCard, run end-to-end through the OneCard app by FPL Technologies. It is aimed squarely at first-time and app-first cardholders: a 16-gram metal card that costs nothing to own for life, a 1% forex markup that beats most premium travel cards, and a rewards programme that is far more modest than its "5X" branding suggests. If you want a free metal card for everyday and international spends, it works well. If you are optimising for reward value per rupee, it does not.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 18 to 60 years.
  • Residency: Resident Indian, as declared in the card application.
  • Credit score: A score of 750 or above is required for the unsecured metal card. Applicants who fall short are offered an FD-backed version of the card instead, where a fixed deposit secures the limit.
  • Income: No minimum income is published. Approval is driven by credit score and BOBCARD's internal assessment.
  • Location: The metal card is serviced across 67+ locations in India; the FD-backed card is available in 100+ locations.
  • Documents: Aadhaar and PAN linked to your registered mobile number, plus any standard address proof. Onboarding is fully paperless through the OneCard app.

Welcome Benefit

There is no welcome benefit, sign-up voucher or bonus reward point offer on the BOBCARD One Credit Card. The value proposition here is the absence of cost rather than the presence of a joining gift — no joining fee, no annual membership fee, no issuance fee on the primary card, and no reward redemption fee.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

The programme has exactly two rates, and understanding the difference between them is the single most important thing about this card.

Base rate — 1 Reward Point per ₹50 spent. At a redemption value of ₹0.10 per point, this is a 0.2% return. It applies to all eligible retail purchases, including international transactions. Fractional points are credited, so a ₹25 mobile recharge earns 0.5 points and nothing is lost to rounding.

5X rate — 5 Reward Points per ₹50 spent, on your top two spend categories. This is a 5x multiplier on the base rate, which works out to a 1.0% return — not 5%. It is the most commonly misunderstood feature on the card.

To unlock 5X in any calendar month, you must:

  1. Spend in at least three reward-eligible categories, and
  2. Spend at least ₹750 in each of those three categories.

If you clear both conditions, OneCard identifies your two highest-spend eligible categories at month end and applies 5X retrospectively to every eligible transaction in them. Concentrate all your spending into one or two categories and you get no 5X at all.

Two caveats worth knowing. First, categories are assigned internally by FPL Technologies from merchant category codes — they are not user-selectable and the merchant-to-category map is not published, so you only see your top two in retrospect. Second, Bills & Utilities, Education and Insurance carry a 5X cap of 25,000 Reward Points (₹2,500) per month; beyond that, spends in those categories drop back to the 1X base rate for the rest of the month.

Illustrative earning example

The uploaded Terms and Conditions contain no worked rewards example, so the table below is illustrative only, built from the published rates.

Assume ₹40,000 of monthly spend:

CategorySpendRate appliedPointsValue
Groceries (top category)₹12,0005X — 1.0%1,200 RP₹120
Shopping (2nd category)₹9,0005X — 1.0%900 RP₹90
Dining₹8,0001X — 0.2%160 RP₹16
Bills & utilities₹3,0001X — 0.2%60 RP₹6
Other spends₹4,0001X — 0.2%80 RP₹8
Fuel₹4,000Excluded0 RP₹0
**Total****₹40,000****2,400 RP****₹240**

That is an effective return of 0.6% for the month, or roughly ₹2,880 a year — earned on a card that costs nothing to hold. Push more spend into your top two categories and the blended rate rises toward 1%; spread it thinly, or fail the three-category test, and it collapses toward 0.2%.

Milestone Benefits

The BOBCARD One Credit Card has no milestone or annual spend-based benefits. There are no spend thresholds that unlock vouchers, bonus points or fee reversals, because there is no fee to reverse.

Other Benefits

  • 1% forex markup. Charged at 1% of the transaction amount plus GST — roughly a third of the 3–3.5% that most cards levy. This is the strongest reason to keep the card. Note that the markup also applies to rupee transactions billed by merchants or gateways based outside India, and that it is reversed along with GST if the transaction is reversed within 30 days.
  • Fuel surcharge waiver. 1% of the transaction amount or the actual surcharge levied, whichever is lower (excluding GST), capped at ₹400 per calendar month per account.
  • 16-gram metal card. Issued free on the primary card. An add-on metal card costs ₹3,000.
  • Virtual card from day one. A Visa/RuPay virtual card is issued during onboarding and is usable for online and in-app spends before the physical card arrives.
  • In-app controls. Set and change your card PIN, toggle domestic/international/online usage, manage your own credit limit, enable or block overlimit transactions, change your statement date once, and raise disputes — all inside the OneCard app.
  • EMI conversion. Available on transactions, with charges shown in the app at the point of conversion.
  • Reward points never expire while your account is open, and there is no fee to redeem them.
  • Interest-free period of up to 48 days, with the payment due date falling 18 days after the statement date.

Note that this card has no complimentary airport lounge access, no golf, no insurance cover, no movie ticket offers and no memberships.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn Reward Points

These spends earn zero reward points — not even the base 1X — and do not count towards the three-category threshold that unlocks 5X:

  • Fuel — explicitly excluded by the BOBCARD One MITC, though the fuel surcharge waiver still applies.
  • Rent payments — and they additionally attract a 2% transaction fee on third-party rent apps.
  • Money transfers and digital wallet loads/top-ups — including using a wallet load as your "third category" to game the 5X unlock, which does not work. Wallet loads also attract a 2% fee once monthly transfers cross ₹10,000.
  • Cash withdrawals.

A related trap: if a merchant is reclassified from a rewards-eligible category into "transfers" between the transaction date and the settlement date, the points are dropped silently. If points show as pending for more than a few days after a large transaction, raise it with support.

Separately, Bills & Utilities, Education and Insurance are capped at 25,000 Reward Points per month under 5X — the only categories with a stated 5X ceiling.

Is the BOBCARD One Credit Card Worth It?

For the right user, yes — but for reasons that have little to do with rewards. A lifetime free metal card with a 1% forex markup, instant virtual issuance, genuinely good app controls and no redemption friction is a very easy card to keep in a wallet permanently. It costs nothing, it earns something on almost everything, and for anyone spending abroad or on international websites it quietly saves 2–2.5% on every transaction — which for a frequent traveller dwarfs anything the rewards programme produces. The relaxed eligibility and the FD-backed fallback also make it one of the more accessible routes into a first credit card.

Where it disappoints is reward value. A 0.2% base rate is among the weakest in the market, and even a cardholder who reliably triggers 5X lands around 0.4–0.7% blended — well below what a plain no-fee cashback card returns without any category gymnastics. The absence of lounge access, insurance, welcome benefits and milestone rewards means there is nothing else propping up the value. The ₹3,000 cancellation charge if you close within six months of activating the virtual card is also worth noting before you apply on a whim. Treat it as a free forex-and-metal card that happens to earn a little, keep a stronger cashback card for domestic spends, and it earns its place. Treat it as your primary rewards card and you will leave money on the table.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is the BOBCARD One Credit Card really lifetime free? Yes. There is no joining fee, no annual membership fee and no issuance fee on the primary card, for both the primary and add-on cardholder. There is no spend condition attached.

Does 5X mean 5% cashback? No. 5X is a five-times multiplier on the base rate of 1 Reward Point per ₹50. Since a point is worth ₹0.10, the base rate is 0.2% and 5X works out to 1.0% — not 5%.

How do I unlock the 5X reward points? Spend at least ₹750 in each of at least three different reward-eligible categories within the same calendar month. Your two highest-spend categories are then upgraded to 5X retrospectively at month end.

Which spends earn no reward points at all? Fuel, rent payments, money transfers, digital wallet loads and top-ups, and cash withdrawals. These also do not count towards the three-category threshold for 5X.

What is one OneCard Reward Point worth? ₹0.10, redeemed as a statement credit against your outstanding balance through the OneCard app. There is no redemption fee.

Do the reward points expire? No, they carry lifetime validity while your card account is open. However, all unredeemed points are forfeited if you close the card.

What is the forex markup on this card? 1% of the transaction amount plus GST — one of the lowest in the Indian market, and a major reason to hold the card. It also applies to rupee transactions billed by overseas-based merchants or payment gateways.

Does the card offer airport lounge access? No. There is no complimentary domestic or international lounge access, and no golf, insurance or movie benefits either.

Is there a fee if I cancel the card? Yes, if you cancel within six months of activating your virtual card. The primary cardholder pays ₹3,000 for a metal card or ₹500 for a plastic card. After six months there is no cancellation charge.

What happens if my credit score is below 750? You are offered an FD-backed version of the card instead, where a fixed deposit secures your credit limit. This route is serviced across 100+ locations in India.

Are there any caps on the 5X rewards? Most categories have no stated 5X cap. Bills & Utilities, Education and Insurance are each capped at 25,000 Reward Points per month, after which those spends earn the 1X base rate for the rest of the month.

What is the new education transaction fee? From 29 August 2026, a 1% platform fee applies to domestic online education payments routed through third-party apps and aggregators such as CRED, Paytm, MobiKwik or Cheq. It does not apply to direct payments to schools, colleges, universities or professional bodies through their own websites or POS terminals, or to cross-border education payments.
