HDFC Bank Doctor's Regalia Review 2026: Unlimited Lounge, Fee Waiver Trap & FAQs
HDFC Doctor's Regalia charges ₹2,500 and gives unlimited domestic lounge access for primary and add-on cards. But the 2,500 welcome and renewal points are forfeited if the fee is waived. Fees and FAQs.
Doctor's Regalia is the Regalia card offered to medical professionals, at ₹2,500 with unlimited complimentary domestic lounge access for both primary and add-on cardholders and 2,500 Reward Points on joining and on each renewal.
It contains one of the few genuine traps in HDFC's range, and it is worth understanding before you plan your spending around the fee waiver.

Reward Structure: How You Earn
The card earns 4 Reward Points per ₹200 — about 0.4% at the ₹0.20 rate.
2,500 Reward Points arrive as a welcome benefit and 2,500 more on each renewal.
HDFC moved this card from ₹150 to ₹200 earning blocks on 15 May 2026 — a real 25% cut to accrual with no change to what a point is worth. Any page still quoting a ₹150 basis is out of date.
| Spend | Effective rate |
|---|---|
| Everything else | 0.4% |
| Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming | **0%** |
THE WELCOME AND RENEWAL POINTS ARE FORFEITED IF THE FEE IS WAIVED. HDFC states they are payable "only after the membership fee is realised and not applicable when the fee is waived off".
The arithmetic is counter-intuitive. Spending ₹3 lakh to waive the ₹2,500 fee costs you 2,500 Reward Points — worth ₹625 at the estimated rate — so the waiver is worth ₹1,875 net, not ₹2,500. It is still worth having, but it is not the full fee.
The point valuation here is an estimate, not an issuer figure. HDFC publishes no redemption table for this card. This dataset uses ₹0.20, anchored on the only two legacy HDFC cards that do publish one — Solitaire at 100 points = ₹20 and Titanium Edge at 100 points = ₹10. The observed range is therefore ₹0.10 to ₹0.20, and ₹0.10 is a live possibility for this card too. If it applies, every percentage below is double what it should be.
The earn rate is inferred from the parent Regalia card, which the May 2026 mailer confirms at 4 points per ₹200. HDFC's own Doctor's Regalia page does not restate it.
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn
- Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
- Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 24 months from accrual and lapse thereafter — HDFC states 'Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation'.
- Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.

Is the HDFC Bank Doctor's Regalia Credit Card Worth It?
Unlimited domestic lounge access extended to add-on cardholders is the reason to hold this card, exactly as with Doctor's Superia. At ₹2,500 that is good value for anyone flying monthly with a partner.
The 0.4% earn rate is not a reason to hold it.
Plan the fee waiver deliberately. If you are close to ₹3 lakh of annual spend, understand that clearing it costs you the 2,500 renewal points. The waiver still wins on net, but the gap is smaller than the headline suggests.
Eligibility is restricted to medical professionals.
Two things apply across HDFC's whole legacy range and both work against these cards. The first is the May 2026 block change, which cut accrual by a quarter. The second is that the point valuation is unpublished, so the real return could be half what is stated here.
Anyone choosing a new HDFC card should look at the current range instead. PIXEL Go at ₹250 pays a flat 1% in CashPoints worth ₹1 each — several times what any legacy card returns, with no valuation guesswork.
HDFC's Fair Usage Policy caps the legacy range at 15,000 Reward Points earned per statement cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who can apply for Doctor's Regalia? Medical professionals only.
Do I lose the renewal points if my fee is waived? Yes. HDFC states the welcome and renewal Reward Points are payable only after the membership fee is realised, and not when it is waived. Clearing the ₹3 lakh waiver threshold therefore costs you 2,500 points — making the waiver worth about ₹1,875 net rather than ₹2,500.
What lounge access does it give? Unlimited complimentary domestic lounge access at 1,000+ Indian lounges, for both primary and add-on cardholders.
What is the earn rate? 4 Reward Points per ₹200 — about 0.4%. The figure is carried across from the parent Regalia card; HDFC's Doctor's Regalia page does not restate it.
What does it not earn on? Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government payments, third-party education apps and online gaming earn nothing, and points are reversed if a purchase is converted to SmartEMI.
