HDFC Freedom Review 2026: 0.75% Partner Rate, 0.07% Base, Caps & FAQs
HDFC Freedom charges ₹500 and earns 5 CashPoints per ₹150 at partners at ₹0.15 — 0.75% — on a 0.07% base, the lowest in the HDFC range. Fees, caps and FAQs.
Freedom earns 0.07% on general spending. That is not a typo and it deserves to lead this review: it is the lowest base rate on any HDFC card, and roughly a fiftieth of what INFINIA pays.
The partner band at 0.75% is better but still modest, and the ₹0.15 CashPoint valuation is the weakest in the range.

Freedom earns CashPoints worth ₹0.15 each — the lowest valuation on any HDFC card.
0.75% at BigBasket, BookMyShow, OYO, Swiggy and Uber. 0.07% on everything else.
This card was not affected by HDFC's 15 May 2026 rate change. The cashback co-brands and CashPoints cards were named on the unchanged list; only the Reward Point cards moved from ₹150 to ₹200 earning blocks.
| Spend | Effective rate |

| Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming | **0%** |
The caps that actually bind
Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:
| Cap | Limit |
|---|---|
| Grocery | 1,000 points per calendar month |
| Cashback Redeem | 50,000 points per calendar month |
Grocery is capped at 1,000 CashPoints a calendar month. The 0.07% base rate means the cap is essentially theoretical for general spending, but it binds on grocery specifically.
Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn
- Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
- Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 24 months from accrual and lapse thereafter — HDFC states 'Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation'.
- Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
- Grocery cap: 1,000 CashPoints per calendar month on grocery, w.e.f. 1 January 2023 — HDFC places Freedom in the tighter of its two grocery tiers.
- Cashback Redeem cap: 50,000 CashPoints per calendar month on statement-credit redemption. Generous relative to what the card can earn.

| EMI processing | ₹199 plus taxes on retail EMI conversion. |

Is the HDFC Bank Freedom Credit Card Worth It?
It is difficult to recommend this card. At ₹500 for a 0.07% base rate, ₹40,000 of monthly spending outside the partner list returns ₹28.
MoneyBack+ costs the same ₹500 and pays 2.5% at a better partner list on a 0.25% base — more than three times the base rate and more than three times the partner rate.
The only argument for Freedom is if your spending sits almost entirely at BigBasket, BookMyShow, OYO, Swiggy and Uber and you value that specific list over Amazon and Flipkart. Even then the 0.75% is beaten by MoneyBack+'s 2.5% on its own partners.
Fair Usage caps earning at 15,000 CashPoints per statement cycle.
