The IndianOil HDFC Bank card earns Fuel Points worth ₹0.96 each, redeemable for fuel at IndianOil outlets — roughly 4.8% back on fuel, which is unusually good in a category most cards exclude entirely.

The constraint is that Fuel Points buy fuel and nothing else, and the non-fuel categories are capped tightly.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

The card earns Fuel Points valued at ₹0.96, redeemable only for fuel at IndianOil retail outlets.

About 4.8% on fuel at IndianOil. About 4.8% on groceries and bill payments, but capped.

This card was unaffected by HDFC's 15 May 2026 rate change, which moved the Reward Point cards from ₹150 to ₹200 earning blocks. The co-brands were left alone.

HDFC publishes no general off-band earn rate for this card. The rate table below shows 0% for everything outside the named categories because nothing else is stated anywhere — but that is an absence of information, not a confirmed zero. Spending outside those categories may earn something HDFC has not disclosed.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

CapLimit
Category100 points per calendar month

Groceries and bill payments are capped at 100 Fuel Points a calendar month — under ₹100 of value, binding at roughly ₹2,000 of spend. Treat those categories as a rounding error and judge the card purely on fuel.

Most credit cards earn nothing at all on fuel, and additionally charge a 1% transaction fee above ₹15,000. That this card earns 4.8% is the entire point of holding it.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 24 months from accrual and lapse thereafter — HDFC states 'Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation'.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
  • Category cap: 100 Fuel Points per month PER CATEGORY on groceries and bill payments. At 5 Fuel Points per ₹100 that binds at just ₹2,000 of spend in each category a month — a very tight cap that the headline 5% does not hint at.

Is the IndianOil HDFC Bank Credit Card Worth It?

If you buy ₹8,000 a month of fuel at IndianOil, this card returns about ₹384 a month — ₹4,600 a year against a ₹500 fee. That is a strong result in a category almost every other card refuses.

Brand loyalty is a real cost. Fuel Points redeem only at IndianOil. If the nearest pump is a Shell or BPCL you will either drive further or accumulate points you cannot spend.

No fee waiver threshold is published, so budget ₹500 as a fixed annual cost.

Everything other than fuel is negligible — the 100-point monthly cap on grocery and bills makes those categories decorative rather than useful.

Fair Usage caps earning at 25,000 Fuel Points per statement cycle, far above anything a normal driver reaches.
