Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank Card Review 2026: Free Night Awards, 8 Points per ₹150 & FAQs
Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank Credit Card charges ₹3,000 and earns 8 Bonvoy points per ₹150 at Marriott hotels, 4 on travel and dining, 2 elsewhere, plus Free Night Awards at ₹6, ₹9 and ₹15 lakh. Fees and FAQs.
The Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank card is India's only Marriott co-brand and earns Marriott Bonvoy points directly rather than bank points you later convert. Its structure is built around Free Night Awards at three annual spend milestones and complimentary Bonvoy Silver Elite status.
Everything below depends on one estimate that nobody can pin down precisely: what a Bonvoy point is actually worth.

Reward Structure: How You Earn
The card earns Marriott Bonvoy points. This review values them at ₹1 each, which is a mid-range working estimate and is explicitly optimistic — see the caveats below.
8 points per ₹150 at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels. 4 points per ₹150 on travel, dining and entertainment. 2 points per ₹150 on everything else.
This card was unaffected by HDFC's 15 May 2026 rate change, which moved the Reward Point cards from ₹150 to ₹200 earning blocks. The co-brands were left alone.
| Spend | Effective rate |
|---|---|
| Hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy | **5.33%** |
| Travel, dining and entertainment | **2.67%** |
| Everything else | 1.33% |
| Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming | **0%** |
Marriott sets no rupee rate and there is no honest single figure. A Bonvoy point's worth depends entirely on the property, the season and the cash rate at the moment you redeem. Marriott's own award chart runs from a few thousand points a night at low-tier properties to six figures at luxury ones. Redeem well and a point can exceed ₹1; redeem at a city hotel on a quiet Tuesday and it will not come close.
Treat every percentage in this review as an upper bound, not a promise.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn
- Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
- Point expiry: Marriott Bonvoy Points do not expire provided there is point-earning or redemption activity at least once every 24 months in the Bonvoy member account.
- Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.

Is the Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank Credit Card Worth It?
For a genuine Marriott loyalist this card is excellent, and the Free Night Awards are the reason. Three awards at ₹6 lakh, ₹9 lakh and ₹15 lakh of card-year spend, each covering a night worth up to 15,000 points, can be worth more than the ₹3,000 fee several times over — if you redeem them at properties that actually cost close to 15,000 points.
The awards are ceilings, not values. Use one at a 9,000-point property and 6,000 points evaporate. This is the single most common way people over-estimate the card.
One rule change to note: for cards opened on or after 1 October 2026, the welcome Free Night Award is credited only when the joining fee is actually charged. A fee waiver forfeits it. If you are applying around that date, the timing is worth checking.
If you do not stay at Marriott properties, this card is poor — 2 points per ₹150 on general spending is about 1.33% at an optimistic valuation, in a currency you cannot cash out.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a Marriott Bonvoy point worth? There is no fixed rate — Marriott sets none. This review uses ₹1 as a mid-range working estimate and flags it as optimistic. Real value depends on the property, season and cash rate at redemption.
How do the Free Night Awards work? Spending ₹6 lakh, ₹9 lakh and ₹15 lakh in a card year each earns one Free Night Award, redeemable at a property costing up to 15,000 Bonvoy points. They are cumulative, so ₹15 lakh earns all three.
Is the Free Night Award worth 15,000 points? Up to 15,000 — it is a ceiling. Redeem at a cheaper property and the difference is lost, not refunded.
What changes on 1 October 2026? For cards opened on or after that date, the welcome Free Night Award is credited only when the joining fee is actually charged. If the fee is waived, the award is forfeited.
What are the earn rates? 8 Bonvoy points per ₹150 at participating Marriott hotels, 4 per ₹150 on travel, dining and entertainment, and 2 per ₹150 on everything else.
Do Bonvoy points expire? After 24 months of account inactivity, under Marriott's terms rather than HDFC's.
What does it not earn on? Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government payments, third-party education apps and online gaming earn nothing, and rewards are reversed if a purchase is converted to SmartEMI.
