Regalia is HDFC's long-running mid-premium card and, since May 2026, a 1% earner: four Reward Points per ₹200 at ₹0.50 a point through SmartBuy travel.

It is a perfectly competent card that has been quietly superseded. Regalia Gold costs the same, earns more, redeems better and adds a partner band. The honest advice on Regalia is to check whether you can hold Gold instead.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

Regalia earns 4 Reward Points per ₹200 on retail spending — 1% at the ₹0.50 SmartBuy travel rate.

HDFC moved this card from ₹150 to ₹200 earning blocks on 15 May 2026. Points that used to accrue every ₹150 now accrue every ₹200 — a real 25% cut, with no change to what a point is worth. Any review or comparison site still quoting a ₹150 basis for this card is out of date.

Everything else1.0%
Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming**0%**

The redemption spread matters more than the accrual rate. ₹0.50 applies to SmartBuy flights and hotels. Products, vouchers and statement credit pay around ₹0.30, which turns the card into a 0.6% earner. If you do not book travel through SmartBuy, price the card at 0.6% and decide from there.

Other Benefits

Complimentary domestic and international lounge access through the Regalia programme.

Travel insurance and concierge services at the standard tier level.

Points transfer to airline and hotel partners, though at ratios well below the INFINIA tier.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; EasyEMI and e-wallet loading; rent, property management, maintenance and packers-and-movers; government transactions; education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying a college or school directly still earns); and online skill-based gaming. Points are also REVERSED if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points are valid for 24 months from accrual and lapse thereafter — HDFC states 'Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation'.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.

Is the HDFC Bank Regalia Credit Card Worth It?

Regalia is fine and slightly obsolete. At ₹2,500 for a 1% base rate with lounge access, nothing about it is bad — but Regalia Gold is the same fee for a 1.63% base, a better redemption channel and a 5X partner band.

Hold it if you already have it and the fee is being reversed. There is no reason to churn.

Do not choose it new without first checking whether HDFC will issue you Gold. The only argument for Regalia over Gold is if Gold's Exclusive Catalogue does not carry anything you want, which collapses Gold's advantage to roughly nil — but that is a narrow case.

The May 2026 change hurt this card. A 25% cut to accrual on an already-modest 1% rate leaves little room. Reward Points on the Regalia family are also capped at 50,000 earned per statement cycle under HDFC's Fair Usage Policy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the HDFC Regalia fee? ₹2,500 plus GST on joining and renewal.

What is the Regalia reward rate now? 4 Reward Points per ₹200, which is 1% at the ₹0.50 SmartBuy travel redemption rate. Before 15 May 2026 the same 4 points accrued every ₹150.

Regalia or Regalia Gold? Gold, at the same fee — 1.63% against 1%, a better redemption catalogue, and 5X at four partner brands. The only case for Regalia is if Gold's Exclusive Catalogue holds nothing you would redeem for.

What is a Regalia point worth? ₹0.50 for SmartBuy flights and hotels; roughly ₹0.30 for products, vouchers and statement credit.

Is there a limit on how much I can earn? Yes. HDFC's Fair Usage Policy caps the Regalia family at 50,000 Reward Points earned per statement cycle.

Do points expire? Yes, two years from accrual under HDFC's general terms. They are also reversed if a retail transaction is later converted to SmartEMI.
