Kotak League Platinum Credit Card Review 2026: 8 Points per ₹150, ₹50,000 Fee Waiver & FAQs

The Kotak League Platinum is a ₹499 card with the lowest fee waiver threshold in Kotak's range — ₹50,000 of retail spend in a year — and a joining gift that covers the joining fee exactly.

Its distinguishing feature is a base rate that doubles once you pass ₹2 lakh of annual spend, from 4 Reward Points per ₹150 to 8. Above that threshold, everything on the card earns the same 8 points as the special categories.

The catch is the point value: ₹0.10, the lowest Kotak publishes. So 8 points per ₹150 is 0.53%, not the 5%+ the headline suggests.

Quick Overview

**Card type**Entry shopping and travel card
**Joining fee**₹499 (a NIL variant exists)
**Annual fee**₹499 — waived on **₹50,000** of retail spend in a year
**Network**Visa
**Special categories****0.53%** — 8 Reward Points per ₹150
**Base rate**0.27% below ₹2 lakh, **0.53% above**
**Point value****₹0.10** catalogue / ₹0.07 cash
**Joining gift**5,000 Reward Points (**₹500**)
**Lounge**None

The tiered base rate

This is the card's defining mechanic:

Cumulative annual spendSpecial categoriesOther categories
Up to ₹2 lakh8 points / ₹150**4 points / ₹150**
₹2 lakh and above8 points / ₹150**8 points / ₹150**

Annual spend is measured on the card anniversary year.

In rupees at ₹0.10 a point:

Below ₹2 lakhAbove ₹2 lakh
Special categories0.53%0.53%
Everything else**0.27%****0.53%**

So the card roughly doubles in value once you cross ₹2 lakh. Given the fee waives at ₹50,000, most holders who keep the card long enough will get there.

The special categories

Travel agencies and tour operators, package tour operators, airlines and air carriers, electric sales, durable goods, and departmental stores.

Kotak names them without publishing the MCC list, so "Electric Sales" and "Durable Goods" are open to interpretation — mapped here to household appliance stores and electronics stores, which is a judgement call.

What a point is worth

₹0.10 on the Kotak Rewards catalogue, corroborated by the card's own joining gift: "Get 5,000 Rewards points worth Rs.500/- on joining." That's exactly 10 paise.

₹0.07 as cashback since 1 June 2025, down from ₹0.10. A 30% haircut, so the catalogue is the better channel. Minimum 2,000 points for cash redemption.

This is the lowest point value on any Kotak card. Everything on this card should be read through it.

Joining Gift

5,000 Reward Points worth ₹500, credited after realisation of the joining fee. Applicable to the fee-paying variant only.

At ₹500 against a ₹499 joining fee, year one is effectively free — the one place on this card where the numbers work out cleanly.

The 1 June 2025 revision — harsher here than anywhere else

Kotak's rewards revision hit this card harder than any other in its range:

CategoryReward Points earned
UtilityUp to **₹35,000** per statement cycle
**Wallet load, online skill-based gaming, insurance, government, rent, education, fuel****Nothing at any level**

Seven categories removed outright. For comparison, the Royale Signature, Zen and Mojo Platinum each kept four capped categories and zeroed four. Here only utility survives, and at the tightest threshold in the range.

Kotak also confirms these categories don't count towards milestone benefits — though this card has no milestone programme, so that note is moot.

Fees and Charges

ChargeAmount
Joining fee₹499 (a NIL variant exists per the MITC)
Annual fee₹499 — waived on **₹50,000** of retail spend in a year
Add-on card**Waived**
Finance charges3.75% per month (45% per annum)
Interest-free periodUp to 51 days
Cash advance fee2.5% of the amount, minimum ₹500
Forex markup3.50%
Late paymentNil up to ₹100, rising in slabs to ₹1,300 above ₹50,000
Over-limit₹500
Rent payment fee1% + GST on MCC 6513
Utility fee1% above **₹35,000** per statement cycle
Fuel fee1% above **₹25,000** per statement cycle
Fuel surcharge waiver1% on ₹500–₹4,000, capped at ₹3,500 an anniversary year
Railway surcharge waiver1.8% / 2.5%, capped at ₹500 an anniversary year

₹50,000 is the lowest annual fee waiver threshold on any Kotak card — ₹4,200 a month. On a ₹499 fee that's trivially cleared.

The special-category fee thresholds are among the tightest in the range: 1% on utility above ₹35,000 a cycle and on fuel above ₹25,000. Both categories earn nothing (or almost nothing) anyway.

Both surcharge waivers apply.

No lounge access

Neither domestic nor international. That's consistent with a ₹499 card, but worth stating since several Kotak cards at similar fees do carry lounge programmes — the Kotak Biz at ₹499 annual has domestic access, gated on ₹75,000 a quarter.

Worked Example

A cardholder spending ₹4 lakh in an anniversary year, with ₹1 lakh in special categories:

SourceSpendPointsValue
Special categories at 8/₹150₹1,00,0005,333₹533
Other categories (above ₹2 lakh, so 8/₹150)₹3,00,00016,000₹1,600
Joining gift (year one)—5,000₹500
**Total (year one)****₹4,00,000****26,333****₹2,633**

Fee waived at ₹50,000. Year one returns 0.66%; from year two, 0.53%.

Take cash redemptions instead and the whole thing drops 30%, to roughly 0.37%.

Who Should Get the Kotak League Platinum

Good fit if:

  • You want a low-cost card with a fee waiver you'll definitely clear — ₹50,000 a year is ₹4,200 a month
  • You spend more than ₹2 lakh a year, so the base rate doubles
  • Your spend includes airlines, travel agents, departmental stores, electronics or appliances
  • You redeem on the catalogue rather than for cash

Look elsewhere if:

  • Your spend is concentrated in utilities, insurance, government, rent, education or fuel — seven categories earn nothing here, more than on any other Kotak retail card
  • You want a meaningful earn rate — 0.53% at best, and that's the highest tier
  • You want lounge access — there is none
  • You spend abroad — 3.50% forex against a 0.53% earn rate is clearly negative

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the fee? ₹499 joining (a NIL variant exists) and ₹499 annual, with the annual fee waived on ₹50,000 of retail spend in a year — the lowest threshold on any Kotak card.

What's the joining gift? 5,000 Reward Points worth ₹500, credited after the joining fee is realised. Fee-paying variant only.

What's a point worth? ₹0.10 on the Kotak Rewards catalogue and ₹0.07 in cash since 1 June 2025 — the lowest point value in Kotak's range.

What are the special categories? Travel agencies and tour operators, package tour operators, airlines and air carriers, electric sales, durable goods and departmental stores. Kotak publishes the names but not the MCCs.

Which categories earn nothing? Wallet loading, online skill-based gaming, insurance, government, rent, education and fuel — all zeroed on 1 June 2025. Only utility survives, capped at ₹35,000 per statement cycle.

Is there lounge access? No, neither domestic nor international.

Is there a milestone programme? No. Despite the tiered rate, there's no spend milestone — the doubling above ₹2 lakh is an accrual tier, not a bonus.

Is there a fuel surcharge waiver? Yes — 1% on ₹500–₹4,000 transactions, capped at ₹3,500 an anniversary year, plus a railway waiver capped at ₹500. Note that fuel earns no points.
