Kotak Privy League Signature Credit Card Review 2026: 6,400 Bonus Points a Quarter, Priority Pass, F
This card is closed to new applicants — Kotak's page title reads "(Discontinued)". Existing holders keep it, and Kotak still publishes its fees, rewards and lounge terms. This review is for them.
The Privy League Signature is offered to Kotak's Privy customers and comes in two variants (free and fee-paying) with two elective reward plans (Shopper's and Traveller's). Both plans pay 5 Reward Points per ₹100 on their chosen categories and 2 per ₹100 elsewhere. The card's largest benefit is a 6,400-point quarterly bonus worth ₹1,600 — more than the annual fee, every quarter.
Quick Overview
| **Status** | Discontinued for new applicants; existing cards active |
|---|---|
| **Joining fee** | Nil |
| **Annual fee** | Nil (free variant) / **₹2,500** (paid variant) — waived on ₹5 lakh of retail spend **or** a Black or Platinum Banking relationship |
| **Network** | Visa |
| **Special categories** | **1.25%** — 5 Reward Points per ₹100 |
| **Base rate** | 0.5% — 2 Reward Points per ₹100 |
| **Point value** | ₹0.25 catalogue / ₹0.20 cash |
| **Quarterly bonus** | **6,400 Reward Points (₹1,600)** |
| **Lounge** | 2 domestic/quarter + 4 international/year (paid variant) |
| **Forex markup** | **2%** (paid variant) / 3.50% (free variant) |
Two plans — you pick one
You elect a plan at issuance and hold one, not both. Both earn 5 Reward Points per ₹100 (1.25%) on their categories and 2 per ₹100 (0.5%) elsewhere.
| Plan | Paid variant categories | Free variant categories |
|---|---|---|
| **Shopper's** | Apparels, grocery, consumer durables, multi-branded online, departmental stores | Apparels, **jewellery**, consumer durables, **restaurants**, departmental stores |
| **Traveller's** | International spends, airlines, hotels, travel agencies, duty free | Airlines, hotels, **restaurants**, international spends, travel agencies |
The category lists differ between variants, which Kotak doesn't flag prominently. The paid Shopper's Plan includes grocery and multi-brand online but not jewellery or restaurants; the free Shopper's Plan is the reverse.
What a point is worth
This one needs unpicking, because Kotak's own page contradicts itself.
- The page says twice that "Value of each reward point is 20 paise"
- But its voucher table shows a ₹200 BookMyShow voucher for 800 points — which is 25 paise
- And the MITC's redemption table puts Privy League Signature in the group redeeming at 25 paise on the catalogue and 20 paise as cashback
So: ₹0.25 on the catalogue, ₹0.20 in cash. The 1.25% and 0.5% figures above use the catalogue rate. If you always take cash, cut them by 20%.
Auto redemption is available: every time 400 Reward Points accumulate, ₹80 is credited to your account every 3 months — which is the 20-paise cash rate, applied automatically. Convenient, but 20% below what the catalogue would give you.
(One row in Kotak's voucher table couldn't be reconciled: "Easy Reward Points | Rs.500 | 1000" implies 50 paise a point, double every other published rate. Nothing else supports it, so it isn't used here.)
The quarterly bonus
6,400 bonus Reward Points every quarter — 25,600 a year, worth ₹6,400 at the catalogue rate.
On the paid variant, a single quarter's bonus more than covers the ₹2,500 annual fee. This is the card's largest benefit by a distance and the main reason existing holders should keep it.
The June 2025 category caps
Kotak's rewards revision put per-statement-cycle spend caps on six categories, and the thresholds here are among the most generous in its range:
| Category | Points earned up to |
|---|---|
| Utility | **₹75,000** per statement cycle |
| Education | **₹1,00,000** |
| Government | **₹75,000** |
| Insurance | **₹1,00,000** |
| Wallet loading | ₹10,000 |
| Online skill-based gaming | ₹15,000 |
| **Fuel** | **Nothing at any level** |
| **Rent** | **Nothing at any level** |
For comparison, the League Platinum caps utility at ₹35,000 and zeroes everything else. If you pay large education or insurance bills on a card, this one still earns on them.
Lounge Access — and the variant gap
| Paid variant | Free variant | |
|---|---|---|
| Priority Pass membership | **Yes**, worth $99 | First year only |
| International visits | **4 per year** | **None** |
| Domestic visits | 2 per quarter | 2 per quarter |
Primary cardholder only. Since 20 June 2023, international lounges are accessed by presenting the credit card itself — Priority Pass cards are no longer issued. From 1 October, guest charges and post-quota visits are $35 per guest per visit.
Kotak values the paid variant's lounge package at roughly ₹15,525 a year: the $99 membership plus 4 visits at $27 each.
The fuel waiver trap
This is genuinely odd and worth reading twice:
| Variant | Fuel surcharge waiver |
|---|---|
| **Free** | 1% on ₹400–₹7,500, capped at **₹4,500 an anniversary year** |
| **Paid** | 1% on ₹400–₹7,500, capped at **₹300 a calendar month** |
The paid variant's cap is ₹3,600 a year at best, and only if you spread fuel spend perfectly evenly across twelve months. A heavy-fuel cardholder is better off on the free variant for that benefit alone.
Fuel earns no Reward Points on either.
Fees and Charges
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | Nil |
| Annual fee | Nil (free) / **₹2,500** (paid) |
| Fee waiver | ₹5,00,000 of annual retail spend **or** a Black or Platinum Banking relationship |
| Add-on card | Not applicable |
| Finance charges | 3.50% per month (42.00% per annum) |
| Interest-free period | Up to 51 days |
| Cash advance fee | 2.5% of the amount, minimum ₹500 |
| **Forex markup** | **2%** (paid) / 3.50% (free) |
| Dynamic currency conversion | 2% (paid) / 3.5% (free) |
| Utility fee | 1% above ₹75,000 per statement cycle |
| Fuel fee | 1% above ₹50,000 per statement cycle |
| Railway surcharge waiver | 1.8% / 2.5%, capped at ₹500 an anniversary year |
The fee waiver has two routes, and the second is the one Privy customers should note: "Annual retail spends of ₹5,00,000 or by maintaining Black or Platinum Banking Relationship." If you're in the Privy League Black or Platinum programme, the fee is waived regardless of spend.
Redemption options
Beyond the catalogue and cash:
| Reward | Voucher value | Points |
|---|---|---|
| BookMyShow voucher | ₹200 | 800 |
| Auto redemption to account | ₹80 | 400 |
Redemption is also available against air tickets, 10,000+ merchandise items and mobile recharges. A minimum of 2,000 Reward Points is required for cash value redemption.
Worked Example
A paid-variant cardholder on the Traveller's Plan spending ₹6 lakh a year, with ₹1.5 lakh on airlines, hotels and travel agencies:
| Category | Spend | Points | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Travel special categories | ₹1,50,000 | 7,500 | ₹1,875 |
| Everything else eligible | ₹4,50,000 | 9,000 | ₹2,250 |
| Quarterly bonus × 4 | — | 25,600 | ₹6,400 |
| **Total** | **₹6,00,000** | **42,100** | **₹10,525** |
Against a ₹2,500 fee — waived at ₹5 lakh anyway — that's a net 1.75%. The quarterly bonus is 61% of the total value. The earn rate is almost incidental.
Who This Card Still Suits
Keep it if:
- You're on the paid variant — ₹6,400 a year of bonus points against a ₹2,500 fee that likely waives anyway
- You use the international lounge access (paid variant only)
- You spend abroad — 2% markup on the paid variant
- You pay large education or insurance bills — the ₹1 lakh caps are generous by Kotak's standards
Supplement it if:
- You're on the free variant. No international lounge visits, 3.50% forex, and the same earn rate
- Fuel is a big share of your spend — it earns nothing, and the paid variant's ₹300-a-month waiver cap is poor
- You want a higher earn rate. 1.25% on your chosen plan and 0.5% elsewhere is modest for a premium card
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still apply? No. Kotak's page title reads "(Discontinued)". Existing holders keep the card.
Which plan should I pick? You chose at issuance and hold one. The Traveller's Plan covers airlines, hotels, duty free, travel agencies and international spends; the Shopper's Plan covers apparel, durables and departmental stores, with grocery and multi-brand online on the paid variant or jewellery and restaurants on the free one.
What's a point worth? ₹0.25 on the catalogue and ₹0.20 in cash. Kotak's page quotes 20 paise, but its own BookMyShow voucher (₹200 for 800 points) and the MITC both give 25 paise on the catalogue.
What's the quarterly bonus? 6,400 Reward Points every quarter — ₹1,600 at the catalogue rate, ₹6,400 a year.
How do I waive the annual fee? ₹5 lakh of annual retail spend, or by maintaining a Black or Platinum Banking relationship with Kotak.
How much lounge access do I get? 2 domestic visits a quarter on both variants. The paid variant adds a Priority Pass membership and 4 international visits a year; the free variant gets the membership in year one only, with no complimentary visits.
What's the forex markup? 2% on the paid variant, 3.50% on the free one.
Why is the paid variant's fuel waiver worse? It's capped at ₹300 a calendar month against ₹4,500 an anniversary year on the free variant. That's Kotak's structure, not an error — and it's the one line where the free variant wins.
Which categories earn nothing? Fuel and rent, at any level. Utility, education, government, insurance, wallet loading and online gaming earn up to per-cycle caps.
Fees, rates and benefits verified against the Kotak Privy League Signature Credit Card product page, its fees-and-charges and milestone pages, the KotakPrivyLeagueSignatureCC product T&C dated 1 June 2025, the ZEN PSL lounge list and the Kotak credit-card MITC, as at 23 September 2026. The card is closed to new applicants. Where the card page and the MITC disagree on point value, the higher catalogue rate is used per the maximum-realisable-value convention.
