Kotak White Credit Card Review 2026: ₹27,000 in Milestones, Priority Pass, Fees & FAQs
The Kotak White is a ₹3,000 card with no reward rate at all. It earns nothing per rupee. Instead it credits direct rupee value at five spend milestones, topping out at ₹27,000 a year on ₹12 lakh of spend.
Kotak's own framing: "Why keep track of reward points when you can just unlock direct value as you spend?"
It also carries a Priority Pass membership, 8 domestic and 4 international lounge visits a year, and both surcharge waivers.
Kotak White Quick Overview
| **Card type** | Premium lifestyle card |
|---|---|
| **Joining / annual fee** | ₹3,000 + GST. Annual fee waived on **₹5 lakh** of retail spend in a year |
| **Network** | Visa |
| **Reward rate** | **None** — value comes only from milestones |
| **Milestone ceiling** | **₹27,000** a year at ₹12 lakh of spend |
| **Welcome benefit** | ₹1,500 of Reward Point value on ₹30,000 in 60 days |
| **Lounge** | 8 domestic a year (2/quarter) + 4 international, plus Priority Pass membership worth $99 |
| **Forex markup** | 3.50% |
| **Point value** | ₹1 catalogue / ₹0.70 cashback |
The Milestone Structure
Five thresholds, measured on the card anniversary year:
| Cumulative spend | Value earned | Running total | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹2 lakh | ₹2,000 | ₹2,000 | 1.00% |
| ₹4 lakh | ₹4,000 | ₹6,000 | 1.50% |
| ₹6 lakh | ₹6,000 | ₹12,000 | 2.00% |
| ₹9 lakh | ₹7,000 | ₹19,000 | 2.11% |
| ₹12 lakh | ₹8,000 | ₹27,000 | **2.25%** |
And then it stops. Kotak states that ₹27,000 is the maximum Reward Point value that can be accumulated in a year. Spend ₹20 lakh and you earn the same ₹27,000 — an effective 1.35%.
So the card's sweet spot is precisely ₹12 lakh a year, or ₹1 lakh a month. Below that you are on a rising curve; above it you are diluting.
The expiry mechanics are the part to watch
- The balance resets to zero on each card anniversary — not on a rolling basis
- The balance earned in an anniversary year stays claimable for 90 days after that year ends
Kotak's own example: a card booked on 1 June 2025 has its 1 June 2025 – 31 May 2026 balance claimable until 29 August 2026.
Forget to redeem and you lose everything earned that year. Set a reminder for the week after your anniversary.
A change you should check
Kotak flags that the milestone calculation changed with effect from 1 April 2026, linking to a separate document. The table above is the one published on the card page as at September 2026, so it should post-date that change — but if you have held the card since before April 2026, confirm which basis applies to you.
What a point is worth
- ₹1 on the Reward Point catalogue — luxury brands, vouchers, flights and hotels, redeemed through Kotak Unbox from the Kotak Mobile app
- ₹0.70 as cashback — a 30% haircut
Take cash on the full ₹27,000 and you realise ₹18,900. On a ₹3,000 card, that is the difference between a 2.25% return and a 1.6% one.
How to redeem: Kotak Mobile app → MPIN → Card Overview → Reward points (top right) → arrow to Kotak Unbox → select your redemption. Confirmation comes by email and SMS.
Welcome Benefit
₹1,500 of Reward Point value on spending ₹30,000 within 60 days of card set-up.
Half the joining fee back for spend most holders would make anyway.
Lounge Access
Priority Pass membership worth $99, included annually — VIP access to 1,300+ lounges across 148 countries.
| Entitlement | |
|---|---|
| **Domestic** | 8 complimentary visits a year, capped at **2 per quarter** |
| **International** | 4 complimentary visits a year, via Priority Pass |
No spend gate on either — unlike the Royale Signature, Zen and Mojo Platinum, which Kotak gated on ₹75,000 of previous-quarter spend from June 2025.
The four international visits can all be taken in the same quarter.
Fees and Charges
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹3,000 + GST |
| Annual fee | ₹3,000 + GST — waived on **₹5,00,000** of retail spend in a year |
| Add-on card | **Waived** |
| Finance charges | 3.50% per month (42.00% per annum) |
| Interest-free period | Up to 51 days |
| Cash advance fee | 2.5% of the amount, minimum ₹500 |
| **Forex markup** | **3.50%** |
| Dynamic currency conversion | 3.50% |
| Late payment | Nil up to ₹100, rising in slabs to ₹1,300 above ₹50,000 |
| Over-limit | ₹500 |
| **Rent payment fee** | **2%** + GST on MCC 6513 |
| Utility fee | 1% above **₹75,000** per statement cycle |
| Fuel fee | 1% above **₹50,000** per statement cycle |
| Wallet loading fee | 1% above ₹10,000 per statement cycle |
| Online gaming fee | 1% above ₹10,000 per statement cycle |
| Fuel surcharge waiver | 1% on ₹500–₹7,500, capped at ₹3,500 an anniversary year |
| Railway surcharge waiver | 1.8% / 2.5%, capped at ₹500 an anniversary year |
Three things stand out.
The 3.50% forex markup is the card's weakest point. This is a ₹3,000 premium card sold on international lounge access, and Kotak's reduced 2% markup covers the White Reserve but not the White. Spend ₹2 lakh abroad in a year and the markup costs ₹7,000 — more than a quarter of the maximum milestone value.
The rent fee is 2%, double Kotak's norm. The MITC puts White in the same rent group as the Kotak811 Super Money and Dream Different cards.
The special-category thresholds are generous otherwise — utilities only above ₹75,000 a cycle and fuel only above ₹50,000, against ₹35,000 and ₹25,000 on the Cashback+ cards.
Both surcharge waivers apply, which is unusual in Kotak's premium range — the Solitaire, White Reserve, Air+ and Air+ Prime all lose the railway one.
The waiver-versus-milestone tension
The annual fee waives at ₹5 lakh. But ₹5 lakh sits between the third milestone (₹6 lakh) and the second (₹4 lakh). A cardholder optimising purely for the fee waiver stops at ₹5 lakh, banks ₹6,000 of milestone value, and leaves ₹21,000 on the table.
If you're going to spend ₹5 lakh, it is worth understanding what ₹6 lakh and ₹12 lakh get you before you decide where to stop.
A holding restriction
Kotak's internal norms allow only one active White or White Reserve card. Reward Point or White Pass value is not credited if you hold multiple active cards across the two.
Where You Won't Earn
Kotak publishes no MCC exclusion schedule for the White's milestone programme on the pages available for this review. The card page does flag that the milestone calculation changed on 1 April 2026, and any category exclusions that change introduced are not visible here.
What matters on this card is not which spend earns a rate — nothing does — but which spend counts towards the thresholds. Confirm that list with the bank before planning around it.
Worked Example
A cardholder spending exactly ₹12 lakh in an anniversary year:
| Benefit | Value |
|---|---|
| Five milestones | ₹27,000 |
| Welcome benefit (year one) | ₹1,500 |
| 8 domestic lounge visits at ₹1,000 | ₹8,000 |
| 4 international visits at $27 | ₹9,500 |
| Priority Pass membership | ₹8,300 |
| **Total (year one)** | **₹54,300** |
| Annual fee | **Waived** at ₹5 lakh |
On catalogue redemption. Take cashback on the points and the first two lines fall to ₹19,950.
Who Should Get the Kotak White
Good fit if:
- You spend close to ₹12 lakh a year on a card — that is precisely where the structure peaks
- You fly domestically and internationally and value the Priority Pass membership
- You redeem on the catalogue rather than taking cash
- You will remember to redeem within 90 days of your card anniversary
Look elsewhere if:
- You spend well above ₹12 lakh — the ceiling means the marginal rate falls to zero
- You spend meaningfully abroad — 3.50% forex undoes a lot of the milestone value
- You want a card that earns as you spend rather than at thresholds
- You pay rent on a card — 2% plus GST, and it may not count towards milestones either
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the reward rate? There isn't one. The card earns nothing per rupee; all value comes from five anniversary-year spend milestones.
How much can I earn in a year? ₹27,000 maximum, reached at ₹12 lakh of spend. Nothing further accrues above that.
What's a point worth? ₹1 on the Reward Point catalogue, ₹0.70 as cashback.
Do the points expire? The balance resets to zero on each card anniversary and stays claimable for 90 days afterwards. Kotak's example: a card booked 1 June 2025 has its first-year balance claimable until 29 August 2026.
What's the fee and how do I waive it? ₹3,000 + GST for both joining and annual. The annual fee is waived on ₹5 lakh of retail spend in a year; the joining fee has no waiver.
What's the welcome benefit? ₹1,500 of Reward Point value on spending ₹30,000 within 60 days of card set-up.
How much lounge access do I get? 8 domestic visits a year (2 per quarter) and 4 international via Priority Pass, plus an annual Priority Pass membership worth $99. No spend gate on either.
What's the forex markup? 3.50% — the standard Kotak rate. The reduced 2% applies to the White Reserve, not the White.
Can I hold this and the White Reserve? You can, but value is not credited if you hold multiple active White or White Reserve cards.
