RBL Bank Platinum Choice Credit Card earns 2 Reward Points per ₹100 — 0.5% at RBL's own ₹0.25 working point value, with 4 per ₹100 on online spends — 1.0%.

Platinum Choice adds a 2X online band to a 2-point base, at the same ₹499 as Classic and Advantage — which makes it the better of the three ₹499 cards.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

RBL values a Reward Point at ₹0.25, its own working figure — stated on the World series as '1 Reward Point = INR 0.25, with effect from January 01, 2022'.

2 Reward Points per ₹100 on eligible spends — 0.5%. 4 per ₹100 on online spends — 1.0%, capped at 1,000 Reward Points a month.

RBL stopped paying rewards on a whole category block on 13 November 2023 — Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets. Several cards in this series were designed around categories that no longer earn, so older reviews describe products that have since been hollowed out.

The caps that actually bind

Headline rates mean little until you know where they stop. These are the limits on this card:

CapLimit
Monthly1,000 points per calendar month

The accelerated band caps at 1,000 Reward Points a month — ₹250 of value, binding at ₹25,000 of qualifying spend a month.

The accelerated band is an ONLINE-CHANNEL condition, not a merchant category. No merchant code expresses 'online', so the rate cannot fire in any structured comparison and tools will show this card at its 0.5% base rate.

The monthly ceiling, not the multiplier, is what limits these cards. Most of the series caps its accelerated band at 1,000 Reward Points a month regardless of the multiplier — so a higher multiplier fills the same bucket faster rather than raising it.

RBL rounds down on every transaction. A ₹350 spend at 1 point per ₹100 earns 3 points and the ₹50 is lost — every time, not cumulatively.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets and Service Providers — RBL's own category list, excluded from earning AND from milestone spend calculation, with effect from 13 November 2023. Railways and Government are excluded on some cards additionally. Base Reward Points are also NOT accrued on EMI conversion of retail transactions, including Split-N-Pay and EMI requests placed at the point of sale.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points expire after the validity period RBL prescribes and are forfeited on card closure. Points transferred to a partner programme are governed by that programme's expiry rules, not RBL's.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.
  • Monthly cap: 1,000 Reward Points a month on the accelerated band — ₹250 of value, binding at ₹25,000 of qualifying spend.

Is the RBL Bank Platinum Choice Credit Card Worth It?

The Platinum and World range is RBL's legacy series. These cards share one earning engine — a 1-to-2 point base per ₹100 with an accelerated band capped at around 1,000 Reward Points a month — and differ mainly by fee, lounge allowance and milestone ladder. At RBL's ₹0.25 working point value the base rates run 0.25% to 0.5%.

The fee is waived at ₹50,000 of annual spend, excluding the whole fuel, utilities, insurance, rent, education and wallet block.

At 0.5% the everyday earning is low. If you are choosing a new RBL card rather than holding an existing one, the current range — Nova at 2%, the World Safari cards at 0% forex, or the free Paisabazaar Duet at 1% cashback — earns more for the same money or less.
