RBL Bank World Safari Lite Credit Card has something very few Indian cards do: a 0% foreign currency markup. RBL's Schedule of Charges names only four exceptions to its 'up to 3.5%' standard, and the three World Safari cards are three of them.

The Lite variant keeps the zero forex markup at a third of the fee — the cheapest way into RBL's zero-markup range.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

RBL states two redemption rates for this card on the same page, and the gap between them is the single most important thing to understand:

  • 1 Reward Point = ₹1 on flight and hotel bookings
  • 1 Reward Point = ₹0.10 on all other redemptions

That is a ten-fold spread — the widest in this entire collection. Every percentage below uses the ₹1 travel rate, because that is the maximum realisable channel. Redeem any other way and you realise one tenth of it.

1 Reward Point per ₹100 on general spends — 1%. 5 Reward Points per ₹100 on flights and hotels — 5%.

RBL stopped paying rewards on a whole block of categories on 13 November 2023 — Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets. The same list is excluded from milestone spend, so you cannot reach a milestone on utility or insurance spending on any RBL card.

SpendEffective rate
Flights and hotels**5.0%**
Everything else1.0%
Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government, gaming**0%**

The zero forex markup is worth more than the reward rate for most holders. On ₹5 lakh of foreign spending it saves ₹17,500 against a 3.5% card — nearly six times this card's fee at the Lite tier.

Lounge access is gated on PREVIOUS-quarter spend, not on holding the card: one complimentary lounge access on spending ₹50,000 or more in a calendar quarter. A new cardholder gets nothing until they have a qualifying quarter behind them.

RBL rounds down on every transaction, not cumulatively. Its terms say a transaction 'will not earn Reward Points for the residual amount' — so at 1 point per ₹100 a ₹350 spend earns 3 points and the ₹50 is lost, and lost again on the next transaction. Across many small purchases that quietly erodes the headline rate.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets and Service Providers — RBL's own category list, excluded from earning AND from milestone spend calculation, with effect from 13 November 2023. Railways and Government are excluded on some cards additionally. Base Reward Points are also NOT accrued on EMI conversion of retail transactions, including Split-N-Pay and EMI requests placed at the point of sale.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points expire after the validity period RBL prescribes and are forfeited on card closure. Points transferred to a partner programme are governed by that programme's expiry rules, not RBL's.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.

Is the RBL Bank World Safari Lite Credit Card Worth It?

Hold this card for the forex markup and redeem the points for travel. Do both and it is one of the better travel cards in India at its fee. Do neither and it is a 0.1%-to-0.2% card.

The redemption spread deserves repeating. A cardholder who redeems 20,000 points for vouchers instead of flights turns ₹20,000 of value into ₹2,000. Nothing else in this collection punishes the wrong redemption channel that hard.

No fee waiver is published for the World Safari range, so the fee recurs annually.
