SBI Card Miles Elite Review 2026: 3% on Travel, 14 Lounge Visits, the ₹15 Lakh Catch & FAQs
SBI Card Miles Elite costs ₹4,999 and pays 3% on travel and 1% elsewhere in Travel Credits, with 8 domestic and 6 international lounge visits. But the fee reversal needs ₹15 lakh — the highest in SBI's range. Full maths, fees and FAQs.
SBI Card Miles Elite is the top rung of SBI's travel range: ₹4,999 a year, 3% on travel spends — the highest travel rate in the range — and 1% on everything else, with fourteen complimentary lounge visits a year and up to fifteen more domestic visits earned by spending.
Two things sharpen the decision. The card raises only the travel rate against MILES PRIME — the base rate is identical. And its fee reversal needs ₹15 lakh of annual spend, the highest threshold of any SBI card.

| **Network** | Visa, Mastercard or RuPay |
| **Travel rate** | **3%** — 6 Travel Credits per ₹200 |
| **Base rate** | **1%** — 2 Travel Credits per ₹200 |
| **Monthly ceiling** | **15,000 Travel Credits** across all spends — past it, nothing accrues |

Eligibility Criteria
SBI Card publishes no age or income threshold. Approval rests on its own assessment. Indian residency and a valid PAN are required. Add-on cards are free.
The Travel Credit Spread — Read This First
SBI publishes three redemption rates, and the spread is four to one:
| Channel | Value per Travel Credit | Rate on travel spend |
|---|---|---|
| **Transfer to an airline or hotel partner** | **₹1.00** | **3%** |
| Travel bookings through SBI Card | ₹0.50 | 1.5% |
| Shop & Smile product catalogue | ₹0.25 | 0.75% |
Every percentage here assumes the partner-transfer rate. The implication is stark on a ₹4,999 card: book your flights through SBI Card's own travel portal and the 3% becomes 1.5%. Redeem for merchandise and it becomes 0.75%.
If you are not going to transfer Travel Credits to a partner programme, do not buy this card. At ₹0.50 a credit, a ₹4,999 fee that needs ₹15 lakh to reverse is very hard to justify.
The ₹200 Denominator
6 Travel Credits per ₹200 on travel spends 2 Travel Credits per ₹200 on all other spends
That is 3% and 1% at the transfer rate. But accrual rounds down to complete ₹200 blocks on every transaction — a ₹350 purchase earns on ₹200. The effect is largest on small, frequent purchases.
Reward Structure
| Spend | Travel Credits | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|
| **Travel** — airlines, hotels, travel agencies, car rental, cruise, rail, transit | 6 per ₹200 | **3%** |
| Everything else | 2 per ₹200 | **1%** |
| Fuel, EMI, wallet upload, rent, utilities, insurance | Nil | **0%** |
3% on travel is the strongest travel rate SBI publishes — but there is a whole-card ceiling of 15,000 Travel Credits per calendar month, covering both rates together. Past it, spends earn nothing for that statement month.
But note what the step up from MILES PRIME actually buys. Miles Elite raises the travel rate from 2% to 3% and leaves the base rate at 1% — identical to PRIME. You pay ₹2,000 more a year for one extra percentage point, on travel spend only.
The break-even is arithmetic: ₹2,000 of extra fee ÷ 1% = ₹2,00,000 of annual travel spend. Below that, MILES PRIME is the better card. Above it, Miles Elite pulls ahead.
A transparency note: SBI names "travel" as the accelerated category without publishing merchant category codes for this card. The grouping covers airlines, railways, passenger transit, bus lines, cruise, travel agencies, car rental and lodging. Railways and passenger transit are the least certain — worth verifying on your first statement if they are significant for you.
Lounge Access, Including Earned Visits
Base entitlement:
- 8 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits a year
- 6 complimentary international visits a year, on a complimentary Priority Pass membership worth US$99
Earned visits: ONE additional domestic visit for every ₹1 lakh of spend, capped at 15 extra in a membership year.
A cardholder spending ₹15 lakh a year — the fee-reversal threshold — accumulates 23 domestic visits plus 6 international. That is 29 lounge visits a year, among the most generous entitlements on any Indian card short of the unlimited-access super-premium tier.
Six complimentary international visits is the most in the MILES family and matches SBI Card ELITE.
Welcome Benefit and Milestone
Welcome: 5,000 Travel Credits — ₹5,000 at the transfer rate — on spending ₹1,00,000 within 60 days of card issuance, and on payment of the joining fee. That covers the ₹4,999 fee almost exactly in year one.
Milestone: 20,000 bonus Travel Credits at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — ₹20,000 at the transfer rate, four times the annual fee and the largest single milestone in the MILES family.
Here the thresholds work against you. The milestone sits at ₹12 lakh but the fee reversal needs ₹15 lakh — so a cardholder can collect 20,000 bonus Travel Credits and still pay the full ₹4,999. On MILES and MILES PRIME the order is reversed, with the milestone below the reversal threshold. Miles Elite is the exception, and not in the holder's favour.
₹15 lakh is the highest fee-reversal threshold of any SBI card — ₹1.25 lakh a month, every month. Most holders should plan on paying the fee.
Worked Example
Illustrative, at ₹1,05,000 a month — ₹12.6 lakh a year, which clears the milestone but not the reversal:
| Category | Monthly spend | Rate | Travel Credits | Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Travel (flights, hotels, car hire) | ₹35,000 | 3% | 1,050 | ₹1,050 |
| Everything else | ₹62,000 | 1% | 620 | ₹620 |
| Fuel and utilities | ₹8,000 | 0% | 0 | ₹0 |
| **Monthly total** | **₹1,05,000** | **1,670** | **₹1,670 — 1.59%** |
Annual tally, assuming partner transfer:
| Travel Credits earned | ₹20,040 |
|---|---|
| Milestone bonus at ₹12 lakh | ₹20,000 |
| Welcome credits (year one) | ₹5,000 |
| **Year-one total** | **₹45,040** |
| **Steady state** | **₹40,040** |
| Annual fee | ₹4,999 (₹12.6 lakh is short of the ₹15 lakh reversal) |
| **Net, steady state** | **₹35,041 — 2.78% of spend** |
Plus 20 domestic lounge visits (8 base + 12 earned) and 6 international — 26 visits, not counted above.
Redeem through the SBI travel portal instead and the credit figures halve to ₹10,020 earned plus ₹10,000 milestone — ₹20,020 against a ₹4,999 fee. Still positive, but the card stops being special.
Where You Won't Earn
SBI states the exclusions plainly: fuel, EMI, wallet upload, property rental, utilities and insurance, plus cash advances.
At this spend level the exclusions matter. A household putting ₹1 lakh a month through the card will have utilities, insurance premiums and possibly rent among that — all earning nothing, and several carrying their own transaction fee on top.
The fuel surcharge waiver is the whole fuel benefit: 1% reversed on transactions between ₹500 and ₹3,000, capped at ₹100 per statement cycle.
SBI's range-wide transaction fees apply: ₹199 per rent payment, 1% on wallet loads above ₹1,000, 1% on utility payments once the cycle total passes ₹50,000, and 1% on education payments through third-party apps.
Fees and Charges
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹4,999 + GST |
| Renewal fee | ₹4,999 + GST, reversed at ₹15,00,000 annual spend |
| Add-on card fee | Nil |
| Finance charge | 3.75% per month — **45% per annum** |
| Interest-free period | 20 to 50 days; none if any part of last month's bill is unpaid |
| Forex markup | **3.5%** |
| Cash advance fee | 2.5%, minimum ₹500 |
| Fuel surcharge waiver | 1% on ₹500–₹3,000, max ₹100 per cycle |
| Late payment | ₹100 to ₹1,300 by balance |
| Overlimit | 2.5%, minimum ₹600 |
| GST | 18% on all of the above |
The 3.5% forex markup is the card's central contradiction. This is SBI's top travel card, with six international lounge visits and a 3% travel rate — and it charges the standard markup on foreign currency. SBI Card ELITE, at the identical ₹4,999 fee, charges 1.99%. On ₹4 lakh of annual foreign spend, ELITE saves ₹6,000 — more than the 1% of extra travel earn rate delivers on most portfolios.
Miles Elite vs SBI Card ELITE
Same fee. Different cards. This is the comparison that matters most.
| **Miles Elite** | SBI Card ELITE | |
|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | ₹4,999 | ₹4,999 |
| Fee reversal | **₹15,00,000** | ₹10,00,000 |
| Best rate | **3% on travel** | 2.5% on dining, grocery, departmental |
| Base rate | 1% | 0.5% |
| **Forex markup** | 3.5% | **1.99%** |
| Domestic lounge | 8 + up to 15 earned | 8 |
| International lounge | 6 | 6 |
| Milestones | ₹20,000 at ₹12 lakh | Up to ₹12,500 |
| Welcome | 5,000 TC on ₹1 lakh spend | ₹5,000 voucher + Club ITC |
Miles Elite wins on earn rate and lounge volume. ELITE wins on forex and has a lower reversal threshold. If your foreign spend exceeds roughly ₹3 lakh a year, ELITE is probably the better card despite the lower rates.

Is SBI Card Miles Elite Worth It?
Yes, if your annual travel spend exceeds ₹2 lakh and you transfer Travel Credits to partners. That is the break-even against MILES PRIME, and above it the 3% rate and the ₹20,000 milestone pull clearly ahead.
Yes, if you want lounge volume. Up to 23 domestic and 6 international visits a year is exceptional.
No, if you will redeem through SBI's travel portal. 1.5% on travel against a ₹4,999 fee and a ₹15 lakh reversal threshold does not work.
No, if your travel spend is under ₹2 lakh a year. MILES PRIME gives the identical 1% base rate, the same lounge mechanic and a ₹10 lakh reversal threshold for ₹2,000 less.
Consider SBI Card ELITE instead if you spend abroad. Same fee, 1.99% forex markup, lower reversal threshold.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the annual fee of SBI Card Miles Elite? ₹4,999 plus GST, on joining and renewal. The renewal fee is reversed at ₹15,00,000 of annual spend — the highest reversal threshold of any SBI card, so most holders will pay the fee.
What is a Travel Credit worth? ₹1 if transferred to an airline or hotel partner. Used for travel bookings through SBI Card it is ₹0.50, and in the Shop & Smile catalogue ₹0.25. Every rate in this review assumes the transfer rate.
What is the reward rate? 6 Travel Credits per ₹200 on travel (3%) and 2 per ₹200 on everything else (1%), at the partner-transfer rate. Both are subject to a whole-card ceiling of 15,000 Travel Credits a calendar month, past which spends earn nothing for that statement month.
Is Miles Elite worth the extra ₹2,000 over MILES PRIME? Only if your annual travel spend exceeds about ₹2,00,000. Elite raises only the travel rate — from 2% to 3% — and leaves the base rate at 1%, identical to PRIME. ₹2,000 of extra fee divided by one percentage point is ₹2 lakh of travel spend.
How many lounge visits does it give? 8 complimentary domestic and 6 complimentary international a year, plus one additional domestic visit for every ₹1 lakh of spend, capped at 15 extra a membership year.
Does the milestone come before the fee reversal? No — and this card is the exception in its family. The 20,000-credit milestone is at ₹12 lakh while the fee reversal needs ₹15 lakh, so you can collect the bonus and still pay the full fee.
What is excluded from rewards? Fuel, EMI, wallet uploads, property rental, utilities and insurance, plus cash advances.
What is the forex markup? 3.5% — the standard SBI rate. SBI Card ELITE, at the same ₹4,999 fee, charges 1.99%, which is worth more than Miles Elite's higher earn rate for anyone spending significantly abroad.
