SBI Card MILES PRIME is the middle rung of SBI's travel range: ₹2,999 a year, 2% on travel and 1% on everything else, paid in Travel Credits, with twelve complimentary lounge visits a year — eight domestic and four international — and up to twelve more domestic visits earned by spending.

It doubles both rates against the entry-level MILES and adds international lounge access, which MILES lacks entirely. As with every card in this family, the reward value depends entirely on how you redeem.

Eligibility Criteria

SBI Card publishes no age or income threshold. Approval rests on its own assessment. Indian residency and a valid PAN are required. Add-on cards are free.

The Travel Credit Spread — Read This First

SBI publishes three redemption rates, and the gap between the best and worst is four to one:

ChannelValue per Travel CreditRate on travel spend
**Transfer to an airline or hotel partner****₹1.00****2%**
Travel bookings through SBI Card₹0.501%
Shop & Smile product catalogue₹0.250.5%

Every percentage here assumes the partner-transfer rate, SBI's best published channel. Be clear about the implication: book flights through SBI Card's own travel portal and you earn half the advertised rate. Redeem for merchandise and you earn a quarter.

If you will not transfer to a partner programme, MILES PRIME returns 1% on travel and 0.5% elsewhere — at which point SBI Card PRIME, at the same ₹2,999, pays 2.5% uncapped on four everyday categories and looks considerably better.

The ₹200 Denominator

Rates are stated per ₹200, not per ₹100:

4 Travel Credits per ₹200 on travel spends 2 Travel Credits per ₹200 on all other spends

That is 2% and 1% at the transfer rate — but accrual rounds down to complete ₹200 blocks on every transaction. A ₹350 purchase earns on ₹200. The rounding costs more here than on a per-₹100 card, and most on small, frequent purchases.

Reward Structure

SpendTravel CreditsEffective rate
**Travel** — airlines, hotels, travel agencies, car rental, cruise, rail, transit4 per ₹200**2%**
Everything else2 per ₹200**1%**
Fuel, EMI, wallet upload, rent, utilities, insuranceNil**0%**

Neither rate is capped. An uncapped 1% base rate is respectable — it matches what most mid-tier cards pay on their accelerated categories.

A transparency note: SBI names "travel" as the accelerated category without publishing merchant category codes for this card. The grouping covers airlines, railways, passenger transit, bus lines, cruise, travel agencies, car rental and lodging. Railways and passenger transit are the least certain — if commuting is a large spend for you, verify on your first statement.

Lounge Access, Including the Earned-Visit Mechanic

Base entitlement:

  • 8 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits a year
  • 4 complimentary international visits a year, on a complimentary Priority Pass membership worth US$99

Earned visits: ONE additional domestic visit for every ₹1 lakh of spend, on top of the base, capped at 12 extra in a membership year.

A cardholder spending ₹12 lakh a year therefore accumulates 20 domestic visits plus 4 international. The mechanic rewards exactly the behaviour the card is priced for.

Unlike the entry-level MILES — which includes the Priority Pass membership but zero complimentary international visits — MILES PRIME's four international visits are genuinely free.

Welcome Benefit and Milestone

Welcome: 3,000 Travel Credits — ₹3,000 at the transfer rate — on spending ₹60,000 within 60 days of card issuance, and on payment of the joining fee. That covers the fee in year one.

Milestone: 10,000 bonus Travel Credits at ₹8,00,000 of annual spend — ₹10,000 at the transfer rate, and more than three times the annual fee.

The thresholds are the right way round. The milestone sits at ₹8 lakh and the fee reversal at ₹10 lakh, so a cardholder pushing toward the reversal collects the 10,000-credit bonus on the way. Several other SBI cards set the milestone above the reversal threshold, which works against the holder.

Worked Example

Illustrative, at ₹70,000 a month — ₹8.4 lakh a year, which clears the milestone but not the fee reversal:

CategoryMonthly spendRateTravel CreditsValue
Travel (flights, hotels, cabs)₹18,0002%360₹360
Everything else₹47,0001%470₹470
Fuel and utilities₹5,0000%0₹0
**Monthly total****₹70,000****830****₹830 — 1.19%**

Annual tally, assuming partner transfer:

Travel Credits earned₹9,960
Milestone bonus at ₹8 lakh₹10,000
Welcome credits (year one)₹3,000
**Year-one total****₹22,960**
**Steady state****₹19,960**
Annual fee₹2,999 (₹8.4 lakh is short of the ₹10 lakh reversal)
**Net, steady state****₹16,961 — 2.02% of spend**

Plus 16 domestic lounge visits (8 base + 8 earned on ₹8.4 lakh) and 4 international — worth ₹15,000–₹25,000 on any reasonable valuation, and not counted above.

Redeeming through the SBI travel portal instead halves the Travel Credit figures: ₹4,980 earned plus ₹5,000 milestone. The lounge access is unaffected, and on that basis the lounges become the majority of the card's value.

Where You Won't Earn

SBI states the exclusions plainly: fuel, EMI, wallet upload, property rental, utilities and insurance, plus cash advances.

That is a wider list than most SBI cards — utilities and insurance in particular are common recurring payments that earn nothing here.

The fuel surcharge waiver is the whole fuel benefit: 1% reversed on transactions between ₹500 and ₹3,000, capped at ₹100 per statement cycle.

SBI's range-wide transaction fees apply: ₹199 per rent payment, 1% on wallet loads above ₹1,000, 1% on utility payments once the cycle total passes ₹50,000, and 1% on education payments through third-party apps.

The 3.5% forex markup is this card's weakest feature. On a card built for travellers with four international lounge visits, paying 3.5% on foreign spend is hard to justify. SBI Card ELITE at ₹4,999 charges 1.99% — on ₹3 lakh of annual foreign spend that difference alone is ₹4,500.

MILES PRIME is the balanced choice. It doubles both rates against MILES and adds international access, while Miles Elite raises only the travel rate — leaving the base rate at 1%, identical to PRIME. Unless your travel spend is very large, the step from PRIME to Elite buys less than it costs.

Is SBI Card MILES PRIME Worth It?

Yes, if you will transfer Travel Credits to airline or hotel partners. At the transfer rate, 2% on travel and an uncapped 1% on everything else is a solid all-round return, and the milestone at ₹8 lakh is worth ₹10,000.

Yes, if you fly a mix of domestic and international. Eight domestic and four international visits, plus up to twelve more earned by spending, is a strong entitlement at ₹2,999.

No, if you will redeem through SBI's travel portal or catalogue. At ₹0.50 or ₹0.25 a credit the card returns 1% or 0.5% on travel, and SBI Card PRIME at the same fee pays 2.5% uncapped on four everyday categories.

Watch the forex markup. 3.5% on a travel card is the one clear weakness. If foreign spending is a large part of your life, ELITE's 1.99% is worth more than this card's higher earn rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the annual fee of SBI Card MILES PRIME? ₹2,999 plus GST, on joining and renewal. The renewal fee is reversed if annual spend in the previous year reached ₹10,00,000.

What is a Travel Credit worth? ₹1 if transferred to an airline or hotel partner — SBI's best published channel. Used for travel bookings through SBI Card it is ₹0.50, and in the Shop & Smile catalogue ₹0.25.

What is the reward rate? 4 Travel Credits per ₹200 on travel (2%) and 2 per ₹200 on everything else (1%), both uncapped, at the partner-transfer rate. Note the ₹200 denominator — accrual rounds down to complete blocks.

How many lounge visits does it give? 8 complimentary domestic and 4 complimentary international visits a year, plus one additional domestic visit for every ₹1 lakh of spend, capped at 12 extra a membership year.

How is it different from SBI Card MILES? MILES PRIME doubles both rates, raises the welcome and milestone bonuses, adds 4 complimentary international lounge visits (MILES has none), and raises the earned-visit cap from 8 to 12. MILES, however, gives more base domestic visits — 16 against 8.

What is excluded from rewards? Fuel, EMI, wallet uploads, property rental, utilities and insurance, plus cash advances.

Does the milestone come before the fee reversal? Yes — the 10,000-credit milestone is at ₹8 lakh and the fee reversal at ₹10 lakh, so you collect the bonus on the way.

What is the forex markup? 3.5%, SBI's standard rate. Only ELITE and AURUM carry the reduced 1.99%.
