The AU Bank Vetta Credit Card is built around the weekly shop rather than the annual holiday. It pays its top rate at grocery and departmental stores, layers on quarterly and yearly milestone bonuses, and adds airport, railway and concierge benefits on top of a ₹2,999 annual fee that a moderately heavy spender can waive outright. It suits households that push most of their everyday spending through one card — and much less so anyone whose spending is concentrated in fuel, rent, education or transport, all of which earn nothing here.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 21 to 60 years for salaried applicants; 25 to 65 years for self-employed applicants. Add-on cardholders must be over 18.
  • Residency: Resident Indian.
  • Income: AU Small Finance Bank does not publish a minimum income figure for this card. Approval rests on the bank's internal criteria, and applicants are asked for identity proof, address proof and income proof such as salary slips or an ITR acknowledgement.

These criteria are indicative only — AU reserves the right to approve or decline any application.

Welcome Benefit

The Vetta carries no welcome benefit on AU's current product page. Older listings on comparison sites still mention vouchers worth ₹2,000 for spending ₹30,000 in the first 60 to 180 days, and one mentions a Zomato Pro membership; neither appears in the bank's present terms and both are best treated as expired campaigns. Confirm any joining offer with AU at the time of applying rather than relying on third-party pages.

What the first year does offer is a fee waiver: spend ₹40,000 on retail transactions within 90 days of card setup and the ₹2,999 joining fee is waived. That is a fee reversal, not a reward, so it should not be counted as a welcome bonus when comparing cards.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

The earning grid has three tiers and a long exclusion list.

Spend categoryEarn rateEffective value
Grocery and departmental stores4 RP per ₹100≈1.00%
All other eligible retail categories2 RP per ₹100≈0.50%
Insurance, utility and telecom1 RP per ₹100≈0.25%
Cash, rent, education, government, EMI, fuel, BBPS, transportation, quasi-cashNil0%

Two caps and conversions matter more than the headline numbers:

  • Utility and telecom are capped at 100 Reward Points per transaction. At 1 RP per ₹100, that ceiling is hit at ₹10,000 of spend in a single transaction. Anything above that in the same transaction earns nothing, because utility and telecom do not fall back to the 2 RP base rate.
  • A Reward Point is worth ₹0.25 on flight and hotel bookings, merchandise and recharges, but only ₹0.20 on gift cards, vouchers and e-vouchers. Redeeming through vouchers cuts every rate in this article by a fifth. A redemption fee of ₹99 + GST applies to each successful redemption, and points lapse 24 months after the transaction date.

Illustrative earning example

AU's documents do not publish a worked rewards example, so the following is an illustration built by us, not a bank-published calculation. It assumes ₹40,000 of monthly spend and redemption at ₹0.25 per point.

Spend headMonthly spendRateReward Points per month
Grocery and departmental stores₹15,0004 RP / ₹100600
Other retail (shopping, dining, travel, online)₹20,0002 RP / ₹100400
Utility and telecom₹4,0001 RP / ₹10040
Insurance₹1,0001 RP / ₹10010
**Total****₹40,000****1,050**

Annualised, that is 12,600 Reward Points, or roughly ₹3,150. On ₹1,20,000 of quarterly spend the cardholder also clears both quarterly milestones — 1,500 bonus points per quarter, or 6,000 points (₹1,500) across the year — plus 1,000 birthday points (₹250) and the ₹1,000 yearly milestone voucher. Total value lands near ₹5,900, against a fee that is fully waived at this spend level. Redeem the same points as vouchers instead and the figure falls closer to ₹5,000.

Milestone Benefits

MilestoneThresholdBenefitIndicative value
Quarterly, tier 1₹50,000 retail spends per calendar quarter500 bonus Reward Points₹125
Quarterly, tier 2₹1,00,000 retail spends per calendar quarterAdditional 1,000 bonus Reward Points₹250
Yearly₹2,50,000 retail spends in a card anniversary yearVouchers worth ₹1,000₹1,000
BirthdayAny one retail transaction on your birthday1,000 bonus Reward Points₹250

The two quarterly tiers stack, so a quarter of ₹1 lakh spend pays 1,500 bonus points and a maximum of 6,000 bonus points a year. Fuel spends and cash withdrawals do not count towards milestone spend calculation, and the birthday bonus specifically excludes fuel transactions. Since the milestone clock runs on calendar quarters while the yearly milestone and fee waiver run on the card anniversary year, spending that straddles a quarter boundary can miss both quarterly tiers.

Other Benefits

  • Airport lounges: 1 complimentary domestic visit per calendar quarter. From 10 April 2026 this access is conditional on minimum spends of ₹50,000 in a calendar quarter. Separately, 4 complimentary international lounge visits a year (1 per quarter) through Priority Pass — but Priority Pass usage inside India is chargeable at $35 plus taxes, so the international allowance is worth using only on overseas trips. Priority Pass for Vetta is issued on request with three-year validity.
  • Railway lounges: 2 complimentary visits per calendar quarter at participating railway stations, shared with add-on cardholders.
  • Concierge: dedicated 24x7 global concierge for travel bookings, golf sessions and dining reservations.
  • Fuel surcharge waiver: 1% waived on transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000 at all fuel stations, capped at ₹250 per statement month. GST on the surcharge is not reversed.
  • Insurance: air accident cover up to ₹50 lakh, credit shield up to ₹5 lakh, purchase protection up to ₹25,000 for 90 days, plus baggage loss, baggage delay, flight delay, passport loss and hijack covers.
  • Visa curated offers: complimentary annual Times Prime membership, 2 complimentary domestic flight seat bookings on MakeMyTrip worth up to ₹350 each, flat 15% off select domestic hotels as MyCash, and Alaya Stays villa offers. These are Visa-network benefits and are not available on the RuPay variant, which instead carries rotating RuPay offers.
  • EMI and contactless: Xpress EMI on transactions of ₹2,000 or more, up to 20 transactions convertible; contactless payments up to ₹5,000 without a PIN. Add-on cards are free.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn — and Where You'll Pay Extra

No Reward Points at all on: cash transactions, rent, education, government payments, EMI transactions, fuel, BBPS/Bharat Connect bill payments, transportation and quasi-cash transactions.

Worse than zero, several of these carry fair usage charges:

CategoryCharge
Rent (MCC 6513), domestic1% of transaction value, minimum ₹99 per transaction
Education and government via third-party apps (CRED, PhonePe, Paytm, MobiKwik, Freecharge)1% of transaction value, minimum ₹99 per transaction
Fuel (MCC 5172, 5541, 5542, 5552, 5983)1% once monthly aggregate crosses 50% of credit limit or ₹50,000, whichever is lower; from 1 July 2026 also where a single transaction exceeds ₹10,000 or the monthly aggregate exceeds ₹25,000
Utility (MCC 4900)1% on the portion of monthly aggregate above ₹50,000
Transportation (MCC 4111, 4112, 4784), from 14 June 20261% on the entire monthly aggregate once it crosses 50% of credit limit or ₹25,000, whichever is lower

Education paid directly to a school or college website or at its POS terminal remains free of the charge, as do international education and international rental transactions. Fair usage charges do not apply to international transactions.

Is the AU Bank Vetta Credit Card Worth It?

For a household running ₹35,000 to ₹50,000 a month through the card with a genuine grocery bias, the Vetta works. Both quarterly milestones fall within reach, the annual fee waiver is comfortable, and the combined milestone-plus-birthday bonuses can double the value of the base earning — the bonuses, not the 4 RP grocery rate, are where the card earns its keep. Add the railway lounge access, which few cards at this fee include, and the arithmetic holds up.

It works far less well for anyone else. A 1% top rate is modest by 2026 standards, the base rate of 0.5% is below what several no-fee cards pay, and the exclusion list removes fuel, rent, education, government and transport from the earning base entirely while adding a 1% fair usage charge to most of them. Domestic lounge access is now spend-gated at ₹50,000 a quarter, the international Priority Pass visits are chargeable inside India, and Visa's Times Prime and MakeMyTrip perks vanish on the RuPay variant. If your spending is scattered, if you cannot clear ₹1.5 lakh a year in retail spends to trigger the waiver, or if you redeem mainly through vouchers at ₹0.20 a point, the ₹2,999 fee is difficult to justify — and the card becomes appreciably better if you are offered it lifetime free.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is one AU Reward Point worth? Roughly ₹0.25 when redeemed for flight and hotel bookings, merchandise or mobile and DTH recharges, and ₹0.20 when redeemed against gift cards, vouchers and e-vouchers. A redemption fee of ₹99 plus GST applies each time.

Is there a cap on utility and telecom rewards? Yes. A maximum of 100 Reward Points per transaction applies to utility and telecom spends, which is reached at ₹10,000 of spend in one transaction. Points are not earned beyond that within the same transaction.

No. Neither earns Reward Points, and both attract fair usage charges — 1% with a ₹99 minimum on domestic rent, and 1% on fuel once monthly thresholds are crossed. The 1% fuel surcharge waiver up to ₹250 a month still applies to fuel transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000.

What is the interest rate on the Vetta card? 3.75% per month, which works out to 45% per annum, as stated in AU's Key Fact Statement for all retail credit cards other than Zenith+ and the AU CA/AU CS variants.
