The Axis Freecharge card earns through a monthly spend-slab table rather than a per-rupee rate, which makes it unlike almost every other card in this collection.

This review is short because the published material is. Inventing the missing figures would be worse than naming the gap.

Reward Structure: How You Earn

Earning works in slabs, not percentages. Spends of ₹0–₹1,999 in a month earn nothing at all. ₹2,000–₹4,999 earns 100 EDGE Reward Points, with further slabs above that. A slab structure cannot be expressed as a percentage, which is why any comparison will show 0% for this card.

The practical effect is a cliff at ₹2,000. Spend ₹1,999 in a month and you earn nothing; spend ₹2,000 and you earn 100 points — ₹20. That is a strange incentive and worth knowing about.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: fuel; rent (MCC 6513); wallet loads (MCC 6540); government institution transactions (MCC 9222, 9311, 9399, 9402); cash withdrawals; EMI conversions; gift card purchases and toll, bridge and road fees (both excluded w.e.f. 28 August 2026); and fees, charges, GST and reversals. Insurance, utilities, telecom, education and jewellery are excluded on some cards only — the per-card notes say which.
  • Point expiry: EDGE Reward Points and EDGE Miles expire 36 months from the date of accrual unless the card's own terms say otherwise. Points are forfeited if the card is closed, and a NEGATIVE point balance at closure is converted to a statement debit the cardholder must pay.
  • Redemption fee: ₹199 per redemption.

Is the Axis Bank Freecharge Credit Card Worth It?

At ₹250 the stakes are low either way. The slab structure suits someone with steady monthly spending and punishes anyone whose usage is irregular.

The cliff at ₹2,000 a month is the thing to watch. A quiet month earns nothing at all, not a reduced amount.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How does the Freecharge card earn? Through a monthly spend-slab table, not a per-rupee rate. ₹0–₹1,999 of monthly spend earns nothing; ₹2,000–₹4,999 earns 100 EDGE Reward Points, with higher slabs above.

Why does it show a 0% earn rate? Because a slab structure cannot be converted to a percentage. The 0% is a placeholder, not a statement that the card earns nothing.

What does it cost? ₹250 plus GST, joining and annual.
