Reward Structure: How You Earn

RBL values a Reward Point at ₹0.25 — its own working figure rather than a published redemption table.

RBL publishes no general per-rupee accrual rate for this card. Any structured comparison will show 0%, which is a placeholder for unknown — not a statement that the card earns nothing.

RBL's benefit table totals '₹2,500+ per annum' from the welcome bonus and the fee waiver alone. Neither is an earn rate.

RBL stopped paying rewards on a whole category block on 13 November 2023 — Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets. The same list is excluded from milestone spend.

Category Restrictions: Where You Won't Earn

  • Where you earn nothing: Earns nothing at all: Fuel & Auto, Utilities, Insurance, Quasi-Cash, Real Estate and Rental, Education, and Wallets and Service Providers — RBL's own category list, excluded from earning AND from milestone spend calculation, with effect from 13 November 2023. Railways and Government are excluded on some cards additionally. Base Reward Points are also NOT accrued on EMI conversion of retail transactions, including Split-N-Pay and EMI requests placed at the point of sale.
  • Point expiry: Reward Points expire after the validity period RBL prescribes and are forfeited on card closure. Points transferred to a partner programme are governed by that programme's expiry rules, not RBL's.
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 per redemption.

Is the RBL Bank Platinum Bonus Credit Card Worth It?

The welcome bonus is forfeited on first-year-free cards. RBL states it twice: 'No welcome rewards will be given to First Year Free cards'. The 6,000 points are released only on payment of the joining fee and spends of ₹2,000 within 30 days — so a fee waiver at acquisition costs ₹1,500 of welcome value.

That is a genuine trap. Being offered the card free is worse than paying for it, if you would have cleared the ₹2,000 spend anyway.

The second-year fee waiver at ₹1 lakh is the recurring benefit.

RBL publishes no earn rate, so nothing else about the card can be quantified.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Platinum Bonus welcome benefit? 6,000 Reward Points — ₹1,500 at RBL's ₹0.25 working value — on payment of the joining fee and spends of ₹2,000 within 30 days of issuance.

Do I get the welcome bonus if my fee is waived? No. RBL states that no welcome rewards are given to First Year Free cards, so a waived joining fee costs you the 6,000 points.

What does the card earn? RBL publishes no per-rupee accrual rate on the uploaded page.

Is there a fee waiver? Yes, at ₹1 lakh of annual spend, from the second year.
